I am SuperBad

September 6, 2007

I really want to see the movie “SuperBad”.  I know what you are thinking that movie was “Superbad” in the uncool way, or why would you want to see this film.  I want to see it b/c I love the mclovin’ line, Joanh Hill is hilarious especially in Accpeted, and it has dude from 40 year old virgin and knocked up.  I hope to see it soon and write a review…until then I wait and you wait.

GOOD MUSIC

September 1, 2007

Good music is hard to find these days.  The radio puts out a bunch of catchy tunes with no depth or soul.  To find music with soul and life, you have to look hard for it.  What a sad time in mainstream music when someone can put out a song about why they are hot and no good reason why others are not.

In my quest to find music that would stir the soul not just the ear drums, I have found a few gems that I am stoked about.  They are as follows:

·          The Robbie Seay Band:  Their new album “Give yourself away” encapsulates what it means to live.  It has songs of hope, change, and giving love away.  “New Day” is a track that will leave you with a smile on the worst day.  “Rise” will leave you pondering why can’t we live giving ourselves away and loving one another well not to mention all the musical flavor to this album that leaves you wanting more.  Check it Out!

·          As Tall As Lions:  Their self entitled album is incredible.  “Love, Love, Love” methodically lulls you down the road with a great chorus declaring it is all Love.  They have a Coldplay feel, but really make it their own.  “Ghost of York” is a great song to cruise to down the road.  Don’t miss these guys.

·          The Stars of Track and Field:  These guys form Portland rock with a hint of Postal Service.  “Movies of Antarctica” is a slow driving methodical song that grabs you.  With some elements of experimentalism, these guys are ground breaking and will have a bright future.  A must listen!

These three band have redeemed the mainstream failure of radio to put out any real music.

Living Out Loud

August 31, 2007

God has done some cool stuff in my life this week.  He is opening me up more and more to get over myself and look to the needs of others.  He is doing the same with Mandy.  We are getting more and more excited about adoption which we have always wanted to do.  Right now we have a dog, Mini T, we have adopted and another to come next week (Boston, a Boston Terrier).  This week, I find myself thinking more and more about what I can do to help change where I live, and impact the world for Jesus.  I am growing more and more uncomfortable with the way things are in our community and church.  I am ready to step it up and live it out loud.  What does this look like?  I want to model to my students to their families and people we run into what it really looks like to be following Jesus.  I mean really abandoning what we know in this world and trading it for kingdom things like helping the poor in Haiti, Africa, looking to adopt, getting my finances in order to give more away instead of raise my standard of living.  I want to live the gospel out loud for all to see. Please pray for us as we try to do these things that God will provide the timing and opportunities.
